Foresting Seattle is a 5-year community program focused on restoring over 20 acres of forests across South Seattle and helping neighbors reconnect with the natural spaces around them through habitat restoration events, educational sessions, nature walks, and community gatherings.
At Rainier Vista, community members will help care for Cheasty Greenspace while building a stronger connection to the environment and to each other.
Due to historic inequities in neighborhood development and investment, some communities like Rainier Vista have fewer trees, less shade, and experience higher temperatures during heat waves.
This work will help:
· Increase tree canopy and shade
· Reduce urban heat during hot summers
· Improve air quality
· Support wildlife habitat
· Build community leadership in environmental stewardship
This program is a collaboration with Mountains to Sound Greenway, Office of Sustainability (OSE) City of Seattle, Rainer Vista, Seattle Housing Authority, and Rising Star Elementary
