This project works to help Vietnamese nail salon owners and technicians in South Seattle create healthier workplaces. Nail salons owners and technicians are provided information, education, training, and financial assistance to take practical steps to reduce unnecessary exposure to nail care products and improve workplace conditions. The partners on this project are King County, Community Coalition for Environmental Justice (CCEJ) and the US Environmental Protection Agency/Region 10.
Outreach
ECOSS visits businesses to share information with nail salon owners and technicians. To date, we have worked with 120 salons, distributors, and beauty schools in South Seattle.
Training
ECOSS hosts training sessions offering information on: Safe work practices, salon ventilation, salon products & product storage, safer, less toxic nail products, proper waste disposal and financial incentives.
Educate Community
Through community events, festivals, local media and newspaper articles, we work to increase community awareness of nail salon issues and healthier alternative products.
