Internships


ECOSS Eco Events Steward Volunteer Internship
Reports to:
Sustainable Business Associate

Goal of position:
Assist the Sustainable Business Associate with planning and implementing Don’t Drip & Drive testing events; assist with other events and activities as available and assigned.

The Intern will assist ECOSS with outreach, planning and implementing Don’t Drip & Drive testing events, including advertising, organizing, phoning, coordination of materials and supplies, volunteer management, and other tasks associated with implementing large scale outreach events. The intern will assist with pre-event activities, planning, and assisting with events. Time Commitment:
10-20 hours per week, based on need for planning and/or implementation of events, and between 6-8 events, between mid-June and September 30, 2014. Some flexibility in pre-event activities; schedule of events is in development phase. Some work may be able to be done remotely. Early morning starts with up to 8 hours of work a day for a weekday event; at least one or more weekend events will also be held.

Potential projects/ deliverables:
• Develop and communicate event information for staff, volunteers, and cooperating agencies and businesses prior to event
• Assist Sustainable Business Associate with coordination of materials and supplies for events; assist with pick up and return of event materials
• Disseminate advertisement for events to participating businesses to ensure employees knowledge of event and participation
• Attend events and assist Sustainable Business Associate with event implementation
• Assist with managing of volunteers providing training, guidance and support
• Other administrative assistant activities as assigned

Required skills:
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Excellent communications skills; detail oriented
• Team player; ability to coordinate with others and assist as needed
• Self-starter; ability to work independently for the most part and problem solve or find outside resources to resolve technical issues

Preferred qualifications:
• Interest in and knowledge of land use and/or environmental issues, especially water & drainage-related issues
• Event development and implementation experience
• Volunteer coordination experience
• Having a car for collecting materials and other activities is highly suggested (mileage reimbursed at $0.56 per mile)
